Construct Zero

The construction industry is one of the UK’s biggest emitters of greenhouse gases. You’ll be aware of the industry’s commitment to help the government achieve Net Zero 2050, and you may have seen the Zero Diesel Sites Route Map launched on June 5th. In the UK a staggering 2.5m tonnes of diesel (mineral and biofuels combined) are used by construction annually, plus an estimated 2.07 tonnes by construction related transport, resulting in huge volumes of greenhouse gas emissions.

So, how to reduce your impact on the environment? Amongst all the clever technology being devised there are some simple things you can do. For example, consider one relatively small part of your site operations – the wheel wash at the site exit. There’s a much cleaner, more environmentally friendly way of dealing with that mud than wheel washes, jet washes and road sweepers – and so reduce the emissions you generate.

EcoGreen Plant Hire’s Waterless Wheel Wash system needs no power – there are no pumps, generators or bowser/washers to feed diesel into and absolutely no emissions are created. It can dramatically reduce the need for road sweepers, so reducing their effect on the environment. And because it uses no water, the transport to deliver water and dispose of waste water is also eliminated.

The system has been used/is in use on many of the UK’s recent, major projects – HS2, Hinkley Point C Power Station, The New Forth Crossing, A1, A9, A30, A14 widening, Heads of the Valleys Road, Testos Roundabout and many more. It’s effectiveness is proven, and we’d be delighted to help you on your sites.
